Barco Raises the Bar

You know those black bars that sneak across the top or sides of your screen? They appear when the resolution of your movie or show doesn’t match the resolution of your screen. This can happen on your new 4K TV or your home theater screen. And these black bars aren’t only distracting, they rob you of the full cinematic experience. For Belgian company Barco, this inconsistency is unacceptable. To remedy the issue, they are bringing their commercial entertainment solutions into your home with the debut of a brand new laser projection system, the Loki CinemaScope.

The Loki CinemaScope liberates cinema lovers and their projection systems from multiple lenses and constant calibration. You can watch whichever format you want, whenever you want with the versatile resolution of the Loki CinemaScope projector. In addition to flexibility, the Loki CinemaScope delivers pure and accurate colors, brilliant contrast, and proper resolution to everything you watch. When it comes to 4K entertainment, the CinemaScope is the only solution for the discerning home theater enthusiast. To fully understand this groundbreaking technology, we need to go back to the start…

A History of Innovation

Barco, which stands for Belgian American Radio Company, traces its history back some 80 years to radio production in 1934. Founder Lucien Depuydt began manufacturing radios in the small Belgian town of Poperinge with a technological boldness and openness to new ideas that remains the hallmark of his company to this day.

Today, Barco designs and deploys solutions that help healthcare providers diagnose patients, streamline international business communication, create awe-inspiring events, and facilitate immersive theater experiences. Their dedication to the smallest details, innovation, and a never-stop-improving mentality continues to set them apart as a worldwide tech leader in the 21st century.

Barco’s residential laser projection solutions allow you to bring this world-class technology into your home for an unrivaled home theater experience. If you are someone who demands the very best in every area of your life, Barco is for you.

Introducing… The Loki CinemaScope

barco loki cinemascope

CinemaScope was born in the 1950s as movie producers faced competition from the new TV format (long before the advent of 4K!). 20th Century Fox introduced the wide angle CinemaScope movie format to deliver a cutting edge viewing experience for movie lovers. The debut was a hit right off the bat and cinemas jumped at the opportunity to outfit their existing projector kits with the new anamorphic lenses. Since most cinemas employed a technician, switching between formats became the norm.

Fast forward 60 plus years, and discerning home theater enthusiasts now enjoy the CinemaScope format from the comfort of their own custom reclining seats.  The format endures as a classic beloved by people the world over. After all this time, however, we are still swapping lenses and performing calibration checks every time we switch between viewing formats. And, yes, we deal with those distracting black bars when our media format doesn’t match our hardware.

The Loki CinemaScope enables us to switch between formats without extra lenses or calibration. Barco’s Loki CinemaScope joins their Optix and Orion models to offer 4K and 5K performance. The new projector creates a seamless home entertainment experience void of annoying presets or manual manipulation of screen size.

The resolution of the Loki CinemaScope is 5120 × 2160, an aspect ratio of 2.37:1. According to Barco, projection is the only way to enjoy a true range of cinema experiences, including the still-beloved classic square format and the enduring wide angle CinemaScope format. At long last, there is a solution for uncompromising entertainment enthusiasts.

The projector is named after a Norse god famous for shape-shifting, defying the laws of nature, and general mischief. Naming your product after a god known for tricks means you better have a few of your own… and Barco doesn’t disappoint here. Their proprietary algorithm creates an effortless viewing experience as the projector automatically moves between resolutions to deliver flawless graphics.

The Barco Residential Loki CinemaScope delivers an Ultra HD experience with unsurpassed flexibility, performance, precision, and longevity. The dual laser projector performs relentlessly for over 20,000 hours of play with accurate color, crisp contrast, and exacting resolution. The Loki CinemaScope pairs best with 4K entertainment, like the movies available through Kaleidescape’s home movie server! An EPV screen further enhances Barco’s stunning cinematic visuals. But don’t just take our word for it…

BTA has the only Barco Loki CinemaScope on display in the southeast. It’s already hooked up to a Kaleidescape server, full 3D sound, and a cutting edge EPV screen. Learn how you can experience the very latest in home entertainment technology for yourself in our show room. Our team loves playing with new tech and will even queue up your favorite movie scene so you can truly feel the difference that the finest laser projector available today makes.
